CORVALLIS, Ore. – Beating Oregon State for the second time this season, the Pacific men's basketball program got hot in the second half to register an 81-64 victory Saturday at Gill Coliseum.
Â
Pacific (13-8, 4-4 WCC), which picked up its first conference road win of the year, was 2-of-10 from three-point range in the first half before going 7-of-11 in the second, where it was 18-of-30 (.600) from the floor. On the defensive end, the Tigers limited the Beavers (10-11, 3-5 WCC) to a .442 mark in the game and 4-of-16 from three.
Â
A key series came early in the second half when senior
Isaac Jack made four consecutive baskets to help turn a three-point halftime lead into a double-digit 49-39 advantage. Pacific never trailed in the second half and led by at least nine points in the last 14 minutes.
Â
The Tigers put the game away with five minutes left after back-to-back threes from senior
Elias Ralph and
TJ Wainwright upped it to 72-57. The largest lead was 19 points with 2:08 left.
Â
Pacific dominated the paint where it outscored the Beavers 42-18. The Tigers outrebounded Oregon State 31-25, including a 9-5 advantage on the offensive glass.
Â
The win came after Pacific beat Oregon State 84-53 at home on Jan. 2. That win was Pacific's largest West Coast Conference margin of victory since rejoining the league in 2013-14.
Â
Ralph tallied a double-double with game-highs of 20 points and 11 rebounds. Junior
Kajus Kublickas came off the bench to submit a career-high 15 points.
Â
Senior
Justin Rochelin stayed hot with 13 points, which was his fifth consecutive double-figure scoring game. Jack finished with 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting.
Â
Oregon State's only double-figure scorer was Yaak Yaak with 13 points.
Â
The Tigers were down 11-9 early when a dunk by Rochelin sparked an 8-0 run to go up 17-11 at the 10:29 mark. Though, the Beavers chipped away to come back and tie it 22-22 with 6:10 left.
Â
A three by senior
Jaden Clayton gave Pacific a 29-26 edge with 4:35 to go. A pair of late free throws by Rochelin kept the Tigers in front 35-32 at the half.
Â
Jack, who sat most of the first half with two fouls, made an immediate impact early in the second as he converted on four consecutive buckets to make it a double-figure game, 49-39, at the 15:39 mark. A three by Kublickas increased it to 55-43 with 13:14 remaining.
Â
The Beaves got it down to 66-57 with 5:30 left before Pacific quickly answered with back-to-back threes from Ralph and Wainwright to up it to 72-57 at the 4:50 mark. A three-pointer by Rochelin and a lay-in by Kublickas put the game away 79-60 with two minutes left.
Â
Up next, the Tigers return home next Saturday for a 4 p.m. game against WCC newcomer Seattle at the Alex G. Spanos Center. Pacific is 8-0 at home this year.
