Pacific Drops 4-0 Decision at Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Playing the third of its first four games on the road, the Pacific men's soccer program fell by a 4-0 margin to Maryland on Saturday at Ludwig Field.

The Tigers (1-3) could not solve the defense of the Terrapins (3-0-1), ultimately battling tough in the program's second-ever contest against a Big Ten opponent.

"Despite the result I'm very proud of the way we played for 75 minutes," Pacific head coach Adam Reeves said. "Having to change the game time made it difficult, but at 1-0 down, we were in the game with two good chances. We must do better in front of goal. Maryland is deservedly a top team and for 75 minutes, we played well and had good moments. Now, we must create more and not concede early. That hurt us, especially on a set piece, which we stressed most of the week."

Pacific found moments to spring on attacks on the Terps as freshman Josephat Yangyuoru notched a pair of chances across the afternoon that were stopped. Yangyuoru recorded three of the Tigers' nine shot attempts. Sophomore Ezekiel Padilla and freshman Emmanuel Frimpong each tallied a shot on goal in their offensive efforts as well.

Junior Mateus Ruiz-Hurst turned in a career-high seven-save performance in his fourth start of the 2025 campaign. The native of San Jose, California stopped a key Maryland penalty kick early on that kept the Tigers within reach following a 1-0 score at halftime.

Four different Terps put their name on the score sheet with goals, securing the opening goal in the 11th minute and three more in the final 15 minutes to ice the game.

Pacific will make the long flight back to Stockton, looking to regroup for a stretch of four of its next five contests at Knoles Field. The Tigers will battle at home against Sacramento State on Thursday at 7 p.m. for its first of two games next week.
