Men’s Soccer Makes Second Ever Trip to Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, MD – The Pacific men's soccer program goes on its farthest road trip of the season, trekking to face Maryland on Saturday night at Ludwig Field at noon ET/9 a.m. PT.

The Tigers (1-2) are coming off a thrilling 2-1 victory in their home opener over Utah Tech last Sunday, looking to build on that momentum ahead of their third road match of the 2025 campaign against the Terrapins (2-0-1).

Freshman Josephat Yangyuoru was a spark for the Pacific offense last time out, notching his first career multi-point performance in the home-opening win over the Trailblazers. Yangyuoru collected the first goal of the season for the Tigers in the first half of the contest and then earned a primary assist on the second goal of the match by fellow newcomer Montgomery Carey. Both Yangyuoru and Carey scored their first collegiate goals in the 2-1 final against Utah Tech.

Sophomore Ezekiel Padilla has also been a driver of the Tigers' attack, leading the team with eight shot attempts and four on target. Padilla scored a pair of goals on seven shots on target during his freshman campaign.

Defensively, junior Mateus Ruiz-Hurst has drawn the starting assignment in goal all three contests so far, making 15 saves on 32 shots faced. Ruiz-Hurst's 15 saves rank second among the West Coast Conference goalie leaderboards while his .714 save percentage serves as the fifth best in the WCC.

The Terps have yet to be defeated through three games, earning victories over then-No. 25 Georgetown, Bucknell and Saint Francis on the young season. In their most recent match, Maryland tallied a season-high six goals in its first-ever meeting against the Red Flash.

Luke van Heuekelum leads the Terps with two goals and five points in three matches. A dozen other Maryland players have recorded at least a point so far this year. In goal, Laurin Mack has produced a 0.67 goals against average with a pair of clean sheets and 11 saves to his name. Mack was named Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week for collecting a road shutout against a ranked squad on Sept. 26.

Pacific and Maryland meet for just the second time in their respective program histories. The two teams met during the 2021 season in College Park where the Terps came on top of a 3-0 result. Maryland is the only Big Ten school Pacific has played against in men's soccer since 2014.

Saturday's contest can be viewed on Big Ten Plus with a scheduled 9 a.m. PT kick-off time.
