STOCKTON, Calif. – For the first time in 27 days, the Pacific women's soccer program will compete within the friendly confines of Knoles Field, inviting Portland for the West Coast Conference home opener at noon on Sunday.
The Tigers (3-3-3, 0-0-1 WCC) ride a four-game unbeaten streak into the contest after opening up WCC action with a scoreless draw on Wednesday at San Diego. Pacific looks to find its magic on its home turf against the Pilots (3-2-4, 0-0-1 WCC).
Fans are allowed to celebrate Pups at the Pitch day and bring their dog to Knoles Field to enjoy the fun and festivities.
Both teams have relied on a defensively sound group going forward of late, but for the Tigers, they have spread out the offense that is spearheaded by sophomore
Sierah McCallum.
Although
Sierah McCallum has not scored in her last four matches, her presence up front has made a difference in pressuring opposing back lines. McCallum holds a team-leading two goals along with 13 shot attempts and six on target.
Junior
Kaya Rosa has also stepped up in an elevated starting role lately, collecting 12 shot attempts across her last four matches. Rosa scored her second career goal off a set piece in the 2-1 victory at Eastern Washington.
The Tigers have six other players who have registered a goal in 2025, including junior
Whitney Garn, who is coming off WCC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Garn scored the game-winning goal in the 90th minute on a penalty kick against the Eagles. It marked the first time that a Pacific player had garnered the accolade since the Tigers rejoined the conference in 2013.
Defensively, freshman
Lis Van Herwijnen has been sharp in her first four starts protecting the goal. The 5-foot-8 goalkeeper owns a 0.50 goals against average and a .867 save percentage across her four consecutive appearances, including a pair of clean sheets against UC San Diego and most recently against the Toreros. The combined goalkeeping efforts by the Tigers ranks them first in the conference with 41 saves.
The Pilots started WCC play with a 1-1 draw against Santa Clara at home. Hailey Babgy scored Portland's goal in the contest against the Broncos for her first of the season. Hailey Still leads the Pilots with three goals and six points during non-conference play.
Sophia Hills has been as good as advertised defending the goal, sporting a 0.71 goals against average with an .800 save percentage. Against Santa Clara, she made two saves on six shot attempts faced from the Broncos' offense.
Pacific seeks its first victory over Portland for the first time since 2017 when the Tigers won 2-0 at Knoles Field. Last year, the Tigers trekked to Portland, Oregon for the head-to-head clash and fell by a 3-1 margin in a closely contested match.
Sunday's match will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Dennis Ackerman on the call for the scheduled noon kick-off time.
