SAN DIEGO – The Pacific women's soccer program lifts the lid on West Coast Conference play, visiting San Diego at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Torero Stadium.
The Tigers (3-3-2) carry a three-game unblemished mark into WCC action, looking to build on that momentum into the road conference opener against the Toreros (3-0-4).
In Pacific's 2-1 victory last week at Eastern Washington, the Tigers collected first goals of the season from junior
Kaya Rosa and junior
Whitney Garn. Fresh off a WCC Offensive Player of the Week award, Garn garnered that accolade for scoring a last-minute penalty kick that sealed the win over the Eagles.
Seven Tigers have produced a goal in 2025 during their non-conference slate, complimenting the depth of the lineup. Sophomore
Sierah McCallum is Pacific's statistical leader in a number of categories, including goals (2), points (4), shot attempts (13) and shots on goal (6).
Defensively, freshman
Lis Van Herwijnen has drawn the starting assignment in goal the last three times out, owning a 2-0-1 record with a 0.67 goals against average and a .833 save percentage. Van Herwijnen made a season-high five saves in the effort after facing 20 shot attempts by EWU. She currently ranks among the top WCC goalkeepers in save percentage (2nd), goals against (1st) and GAA (T-1st).
San Diego has begun the season with three wins and four ties, marking their best non-conference start in program history. The Toreros picked up victories at home over CSUN, UC Riverside and Cal Baptist, outscoring the trio of opponents by a 12-3 margin.
Two Toreros to keep an eye ahead of the match-up are Amanda Anders and Josefine Schlichting as the pair each hold four goals and nine points to their respective names. While Anders has two braces on the year, Schlichting has scored a goal in three straight contests during non-conference play.
USD has split time in goal between Chloe Walls and Ilise Medrano. Walls has started most recently for the Toreros, recording a 2-0-2 mark and .833 save percentage in four starts.
Pacific and San Diego cross paths for the 18th time in the series history that dates back to 1994. While the Toreros own the all-time edge in the head-to-head match-up, the Tigers won the most recent road contest in 2023, claiming victory by a 1-0 decision at Torero Stadium.
In that contest, graduate student
Juliana Alexander had notched her second career shutout while making six stops in the effort defensively. Pacific scored in the final minute of that 1-0 win to secure their first conference victory of the season that year.
During her freshman season, senior
Haley Johnson scored a second-half goal in a 3-0 victory over USD on Senior Night. Graduate student
Taylor Curtis picked up an assist on goal during last year's match against the Toreros at Knoles Field.
The game can be viewed live on ESPN+ with a scheduled 7 p.m. kick-off time.
