Garn Garners WCC Offensive Player of the Week Award

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Junior Whitney Garn of Pacific women's soccer earned West Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week award, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon.

Garn scored the game-winner on a penalty kick in the 90th minute to secure a 2-1 victory over Eastern Washington on Sunday at EWU Soccer Field. The accolade is Garn's first weekly award of her career. Garn becomes the first Tiger to win the WCC Offensive Player of the Week honor since Pacific rejoined the conference in 2013.

"Whitney does a ton of work for us in the midfield, and it often goes unnoticed," Pacific head coach Jeff Freeman said. "She has been at times the glue that holds our midfield together, and at other times has been one of our most dangerous attacking midfielders!  Her time has been coming, and it was great to see her rewarded for all her hard work with our game-winning goal yesterday."

Garn, a native of Riverton, Utah, scored her first goal of the season with that game-winning tally, marking her first goal and point as a Tiger after making the journey to Stockton from Salt Lake Community College. Garn has suited up over 400 minutes through four starts and eight games, including three straight appearances in the starting lineup.

With Sunday's victory over EWU thanks to Garn, the Tigers wrapped up their non-conference slate with a 3-3-2 record and an unbeaten mark in their last three contests.

Garn and the Tigers now prepare for WCC play as they face San Diego on the road in the conference opener at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Torero Stadium.
