STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific men's soccer program plays a pair of Northern California schools this week, heading up the I-5 to face UC Davis at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Aggie Soccer Field before welcoming San Jose State to Knoles Field at 6 p.m. on Sunday.
The Tigers (1-5) are coming off a setback at home last week and look to get back on track against the Aggies (0-3-3) and the Spartans (4-1-1) this week.
Senior
Luca Baltzer carries two-game point streak into the final non-conference road test at UC Davis. Baltzer, a native of Oberstenfeld, Germany who was named a West Coast Conference preseason team member, recorded his first goal of the season last Thursday against Sacramento State and followed that up with a primary assist on a game-tying goal last Sunday against CSUN.
Three players are tied for the team lead in points with three each as senior
Jose Maria Barrera found the back of the net for his first goal of the season last time out. Although sophomore
Ezekiel Padilla has yet to score in 2025, his team-high 11 shot attempts and five shots on goal accelerate the offense for Pacific.
Defensively, junior
Mateus Ruiz-Hurst has started all six games in goal for the Tigers, sporting a 2.33 goals against average with 25 saves to his name. His 25 saves rank second among WCC goalkeepers.
UC Davis enters Thursday's contest with three losses and three draws in six games. Most recently, the Aggies lost at home to WCC opponent Seattle by a 4-0 margin last Sunday.
The Aggies have a pair of players with three points as Cason Goodman and Zack Lillington lead the charge offensively there. In goal, Noah Schwengeler has started all six games, owning a 1.40 goals against average with a dozen saves.
The Spartans ride a two-game unbeaten streak into this week after a 2-0 win at Sacramento State and a scoreless draw against CSUN last Thursday. SJSU started the year winning three straight and its only loss came against San Francisco. One Spartan to keep an eye on is Arnold Matshazi, who holds a team-leading three goals.
Pacific and UC Davis meet for the fifth season in a row as the Tigers carry a two-game win streak in the series. Last season, the Tigers hosted the Aggies for their home opener, earning a 1-0 clean sheet victory. In that contest, Barrera scored the lone goal of the game in the 51st minute of play while recording a team-high three shots on goal as well. Pacific won in 2023 at UC Davis by a 1-0 margin.
In the head-to-head with San Jose State, Pacific seeks its first victory since the 2021 season, which was a 4-1 victory in Stockton. That win marks the most goals Pacific has scored against SJSU in the series history. The two programs most recently met during the 2023 season, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
Both games can be viewed on ESPN+ with a Thursday 7 p.m. kick-off time and a Sunday 6 p.m. kick-off time. Dennis Ackerman will be on the call for Sunday's contest at Knoles Field.
