HOUSTON – The Pacific men's soccer program remains in the Lone Star State for the second match of the season, facing Houston Christian Sunday at 5 p.m. PT at Sorrels Field.
The Tigers (0-1) faced a 1-0 setback in their season opener, looking to return to Stockton with a win in their pocket over the Huskies (0-0).
While Pacific is still searching for its first goal of the 2025 season, the team will look for offensive contributions from senior
Luca Baltzer and senior
Jose Maria Barrera as catalysts.
Junior
Mateus Ruiz-Hurst made his first start in goal as a Tiger in the season opener, stopping six Cardinals' shots for a .857 save percentage.
Houston Christian had its season opener with Drake canceled as inclement weather across the Houston area forced the cancellation of Thursday's match.
The Huskies earned an 8-7-5 overall mark and 5-2-3 record in Ohio Valley Conference action last season, advancing to the championship final of the conference tournament before falling in a heart-breaking 3-2 double-overtime loss in 2024.
HCU was picked to finish second in the 2025 OVC preseason poll as the Huskies enter their third season in the league.
Ryan Okerayi was named as one of eight "Players to Watch" heading into the season. Okerayi was second on the club in goals and points last season while leading the squad in assists. He also notched three game winners.
Pacific and Houston Christian meet for just the second time in the respective program histories. The first-ever contest on Sept 23, 2023, resulted in a 3-0 clean sheet in Stockton, California. Of the seven shots on goal, three of which found the back of the net. In that contest, senior
Daniel Govea notched an assist on the game's opening goal in the 26th minute.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with a 5 p.m. PT kick-off.
