Pacific Continues Homestand Against UC Davis Sunday

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific women's soccer program prepares for the second game of the season, inviting UC Davis for another regional contest at Knoles Field at 7 p.m. on Sunday.

The Tigers (0-1-0) and the Aggies (0-0-1) both are in search of their first wins of their respective 2025 campaigns as both programs ushered in new eras with first-year head coaches on opening night.

While the Tigers faced a 3-0 setback in their home opener last Thursday, the Aggies opened up their season with a 1-1 draw against Fresno State in the program's first-ever home night match.

In his first contest at the helm at Knoles Field against the Hornets, Pacific head coach Jeff Freeman called upon a plethora of newcomers into action, including freshman Janelli Villagran and freshman Yohonna Bell showing flashes of speed and offensive brilliance in their Tiger debuts. Villagran and Bell each recorded a shot attempt while playing at least one half of the match.

A trio of Tigers recorded three shot attempts two nights ago in graduate student Taylor Curtis, sophomore Sierah McCallum and junior Kaya Rosa showcasing their abilities to create scoring opportunities. McCallum represents Pacific leading returning scorer from last season when she put up four goals and nine points across 19 games in 2024.

From a defensive standpoint, graduate student Juliana Alexander made the first start of the season protecting the net, collecting six saves on 13 shots faced.

UC Davis enters Sunday's matchup selected to finish eighth in the 2025 Big West women's soccer preseason coaches' poll under the first-year leadership of head coach Kat Mertz.

Genavieve Fontes was named to the Big west preseason coaches' team. Fontes led the Big West with 11 goals last year and tallied four game-winning goals, helping guide UC Davis to a second-place finish in the 2024 regular season standings.

In UC Davis' home opener, Sydney Bushman scored the Aggies' lone goal in the 48th minute of the second half to give her the team. The Bulldogs answered late in the 84th minute to ultimately settle the score at a 1-1 draw. Fontes led UC Davis with three shot attempts in 81 minutes of action on the pitch.

Pacific and UC Davis meet for the 19th time in their respective program histories that dates back to 1994. The two teams most recently met last season at Knoles Field in which the visitors won by a 3-0 margin on Aug. 25, 2024. The Tigers seek their first victory over the Aggies at home since the 2010 season by a score of 1-0. Pacific won the first-ever meeting between the two programs in October of 1994 by a 2-1 decision. The Tigers earned their most recent victory over the Aggies on the road in 2022 where Pacific put up a clean sheet in a 1-0 win.

Sunday's match will be streamed on ESPN+ with Dennis Ackerman on the call. There is free admission to watch the contest at Knoles Field.
