STOCKTON, Calif. – Ushering in a new era under the first-year leadership of head coach Jeff Freeman, the Pacific women's soccer program kicks off the 2025 season against Sacramento State Thursday at 7 p.m. at Knoles Field.
The Tigers look to continue its impressive starts to seasons, carrying a five-game unbeaten streak in home openers, awaiting their opponent from up the I-5 in the Hornets. Pacific won last year's home-opening contest with a 2-1 victory over Houston Christan.
The Tigers have ten newcomers on its 2025 roster, but a familiar face in sophomore
Sierah McCallum returns to make her mark in the scoring department on the pitch. The native of Henderson, Nevada was second on the Tigers last season with four goals and nine points in 19 games. An accurate shot from up front, McCallum stood in a tie for the team lead in shots on goal with ten.
Graduate student
Taylor Curtis, redshirt junior
Faylinn Berkowitz and senior
Trianne Cooper will make the most of their minutes on the pitch as the trio played each over 1,000 minutes during the 2024 campaign. Curtis scored the game-winning goal early in the second half of last year's home opener.
Coming off a year in which Sacramento State finished 5-7-9 and was deemed the reigning Big Sky tournament champion in 2024, the Hornets were picked to finish tied for fourth by the conference head coaches. Two Hornets were named to the preseason All-Big Sky Conference team in Sydney Sharts and Ellie Farber. Farber was second on the team with three goals and nine points a season ago while Sharts collected a pair of goals on 16 shot attempts.
Pacific and Sacramento State meet for the 28th time in their respective program histories on Thursday, owning a 17-4-6 all-time record over the Hornets. In their last eight meetings at Knoles Field, the Tigers are 6-1-1 since 2005 against the Hornets.
The match will be streamed on ESPN+ with Dennis Ackerman on the call. There is free admission to watch the contest at Knoles Field.
