SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Despite a valiant effort and a two-out rally, the Pacific baseball program was handed a 2-1 loss in walk-off fashion by San Diego on Friday night at Fowler Park.
The Tigers (20-35, 8-15 WCC) got a big two-out, pinch-hit game-tying double from redshirt sophomore
Andrew Sloan in the top of the seventh inning to level the game at one run apiece before the Toreros (24-28, 18-5 WCC) came up with the walk-off hit to take the second game and the series.
Pacific still has another shot at earning the last spot into the West Coast Conference Tournament if they can secure a victory in the regular season finale tomorrow.
The Tigers and Toreros battled in a pitcher's duel all night as sophomore
Regan Carter pitched five innings of one-run ball with four strikeouts. Redshirt sophomore
Carson Revay was effective in relief as well, dealing 2.0 scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts out of the bullpen.
San Diego struck first in the bottom of the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead on an RBI double.
Fifth year
John-Howard Bobo played a pivotal role in keeping the Tigers within reach after he robbed a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning to maintain the one-run margin for the Toreros.
Three innings later, a two-out rally was capped with a game-tying hit by Sloan to give Pacific some life offensively late and level up the game at 1-1.
Pacific and San Diego exchanged opportunities late in the contest, but the ninth inning ultimately went to the way of the home team as the Toreros won by a 2-1 score.
The Tigers and Toreros will battle it out in the regular season finale tomorrow with a first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. PDT from Fowler Park.
