BERKELEY, Calif. – Graduate student
Brian McClellin recorded his first career four-hit game, including his first home run as a Tiger in what was a 14-8 loss for Pacific at California on Monday night at Stu Gordon Stadium.
The Tigers (13-21) found a spark from their two-hole hitter in the form of McClellin's major day at the plate but ultimately fell to the hotter collective bats of the Bears (17-15).
McClellin, the native of Vacaville, California, had previously a career-best three hits during his tenure with Liberty, but turned that into old news with his four-hit, three-run and three-RBI performance. McClellin hit his first home run with Pacific, which came in the top of the third with a two-run shot.
Junior
Jake Tandy raked in three hits in a productive night for the designated hitter, driving in the first run of the game alongside an RBI single in the top of the fifth. Redshirt senior
JT Waldon also collected a pair of RBIs in his effort offensively.
On the mound, redshirt sophomore
Carson Revay (2-4) threw 3.0 innings and struck out four hitters in his start. Freshman
Justin Iglesias and junior
Jackson Lux recorded scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts each.
The Bears capitalized in two key innings with four runs in the second inning and seven in the fourth inning to hold an 11-3 edge through four frames. The Tigers attempted to climb back in the contest, scoring twice in the fifth and sixth innings, but a second day with a comeback attempt fell short by the six-run margin.
Pacific looks ahead to wrapping up its seven-game road trip with a non-conference series at California Baptist, beginning Friday.
