RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Pacific baseball program began its final non-conference series of the regular season on Friday night, falling in the opener by a 5-1 decision at James W. Totman Stadium.
The Tigers (13-22) were nearly on the wrong side of history as the Lancers (19-15) thew 7.2 no-hit innings before graduate student
Brian McClellin laced a two-out single to left field in the top of the eighth inning to break up the bid.
For McClellin, it was his fourth straight game with a hit. Graduate student
Kordell Brown brought home the lone Tigers' run of the night in the top of the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly.
Junior
Jake Tandy and sophomore
Braeden Schnabel later tacked on hits in the top of the ninth inning. Tandy extended his hitting streak to five games.
From a pitching perspective, Pacific utilized a six-man bullpen day, led by starter and sophomore
Regan Carter, who picked up a pair of strikeouts in one inning of work.
The Lancers collected ten hits on the night, including six of the extra-base variety that ultimately lifted the home team to the series-opening result. CBU's Andrew Walters played a pivotal role in his 3-for-4 performance at the plate with a double, a home run and two runs scored. CBU scored at least a run in four straight innings that proved to be the difference.
Pacific looks ahead to game two of the series with a first pitch schedule for 5 p.m. PDT.
