STOCKTON, Calif. – Pacific struck first in both games of its conference play opening doubleheader against Saint Mary's, but could not hold on to either lead and ultimately lost 12-2 in game one and 14-8 in game two at Bill Simoni Field on Saturday afternoon.
GAME 1
The Pacific (11-22, 0-2 WCC) came on a single swing in the opening frame as junior
Amanda Bricker rocketed her fifth homerun of the season off the scoreboard in left center to put the team up 2-0.
Following that at-bat the Tigers would only manage two more hits, with one of those again coming from Bricker in the fourth where she would tally her first stolen base of the season as well.
Sophomore
Justice Alcaraz started in the circle for Pacific and was tagged with the loss after going 2.1 innings and surrendering six runs on eight hits – her record moved to 7-5.
GAME 2
The Tigers were much more effective manufacturing runs in the second game, scoring on a sacrifice fly in the first inning from senior
Emma Dazell.
Freshman
Peyton Clifford doubled home junior
Jordan Hayes in the second before scoring herself on a groundout from junior
Allie Capello.
Two singles in the third inning from Hayes and freshman
Presley Barnes scored three runs and then the watchful eyes of junior
Olivia Silvestre and freshman
Jayleen Scott walked in runs to score five in that third inning and take an 8-4 lead.
Despite not driving in any runners in the latter game, Bricker stayed hot at the plate with her second three-hit game in three contests and has multiple hits in three straight games.
Saint Mary's (19-16, 2-0 WCC) countered with junior Avrey Wolverton in the circle who navigated the final four innings for the Gaels without conceding a run while her offense gave her ten runs of the support to finish the contest 14-8 in favor of Saint Mary's.
Freshman
Alexa Lewis was Pacific's pitcher of record and dropped to 1-5 after giving up five runs in two-thirds of an inning.
The series with the Gaels concludes on Sunday with a single game starting at noon on ESPN+.
