Tigers Unable to Overcome Three Sacramento State Homeruns

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento State hit two home runs in the first three batters of the game, presenting a deficit Pacific softball could not comeback from, ultimately falling 9-1 in five innings at Shea Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Following the three-run Hornet (26-21) first inning, the Tigers (16-31) began to mount a comeback in the third inning with a run on three hits to reduce the deficit to 3-1. Junior Amanda Bricker tallied the RBI for the Tigers, singling home fellow junior Allie Capello. The run batted in was Bricker's 23rd of the season and after going 2-for-3 at the dish, rose her season average to .341 – the second-best mark on the team.

In addition to her run scored, Capello matched Bricker's two-hit day at the plate, giving Capello her seventh multi-hit game of the season – including a double that represented Pacific's lone extra-base hit of the season.

The Tiger run was answered by Sacramento State with six-runs to bring the score to its final 9-1 mark.

Freshman Kiley Shea was tagged with the loss, giving up the three early runs and dropped her record to 2-5. Appearing in relief of Shea, sophomore Justice Alcaraz threw the majority of the game going three innings and gave up three runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk.

The final five outs of the contest were thrown by senior Desiree Smith, who also gave up three runs – this time on four hits and one walk.

Pacific concludes the regular season over the weekend with a three-game series with Oregon State. Saturday's doubleheader with the Beavers begins at noon. Prior to Sunday's game, the program will be honoring the 11 seniors for their hard work and dedication to the team. All three games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
