Tigers Ride First Inning to Series Win Over San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Pacific softball program broke through early with four runs in the first inning of the series finale against San Diego and rode that lead to a 4-1 win to take the series at the Reggie Smith Softball Complex on Sunday afternoon.

Pacific (16-30, 5-7 WCC) scored all four runs in the first five batters of the game, beginning with hits from juniors Olivia Silvestre and Amanda Bricker who both scored on senior Delaney Scully's single to centerfield. Two batters later, senior Emma Dazell put the ball over the fence in left field for her third homer of the season and the final two Tiger RBIs of the afternoon.

The hit highlighted Dazell's monster 4-for-4 ball game, giving not only the most hits in a single game by a Tiger this season but also the most in a game since Bethany Hammer during the 2022 season. Dazell also joins teammate, and fellow senior, Emily Budelli as one of the now 44 Tigers in program history to tally four hits in a single ballgame.

Despite only accruing four more hits across the remaining six frames, it was more than enough run support for senior Desiree Smith, who twirled a complete game in the circle, surrendering a single unearned run in the first and then nothing the rest of the game.

Smith's dominance was so complete, she allowed only two hits after the first inning and neither runner advanced past first base. Her final line was 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB and 4 strikeouts. The win was her second of the season.

Coming up next for the Tigers is one final road game at Sacramento State on Wednesday before returning to Bill Simoni Field for the regular season finale against Oregon State May 3-4. May 4th's game against the Beavers will be senior day, celebrating the 11 seniors on the Pacific team.
