Baseball Rallies Behind Six-Run Eighth Inning to Take Series at Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Capping a six-run eighth inning with a three-run home run by sophomore Braeden Schnabel, the Pacific baseball program roared back to earn a 9-8 victory over Santa Clara Saturday afternoon at Stephen Schott Stadium.

The Tigers (18-25, 6-8 WCC) secure their third straight series victory in West Coast Conference play, finding a way to grasp the come-from-behind win over the Broncos (15-23, 4-10 WCC).

Schnabel played hero in what was another dramatic finish to a ball game for Pacific, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, including a two-out, three-run home run that gave the Tigers the lead and the eventual winning run. His four-RBI performance ties his season-high when he hit a grand slam at Seattle on Feb. 28.

With his fourth home run of the season, Schnabel is now tied for second on the Tigers with four big flies with redshirt senior JT Waldon and redshirt sophomore Andrew Sloan. Junior Jake Tandy, who hit a solo home run today in his 1-for-3 day at the dish, leads Pacific with five home runs.

On the pitching front, senior Adan Perez went 5.0 innings with five strikeouts in his tenth start of the 2025 campaign. Redshirt sophomore Carson Revay earned his third victory of the season while senior Ethan Shaver locked down his second save in as many days for his fourth on the year.

The Broncos' Dylan Joyce was a force offensively, hitting two home runs while Brandon Gomez went 7.0 innings in his start for the home team.

Santa Clara opened the scoring in bottom of the second on the first of Joyce's home runs to go up, 1-0.

Like Friday night's contest, the Tigers scored three in the top of the fourth, taking a lead by a 3-1 margin on Saturday.

A five-run spot by SCU presented a 6-3 hole for the visitors entering the top of the eighth. The two-out Tigers proceeded to score six runs, which were completed by Schnabel's three-run home run to retake the lead, 9-6.

Shaver got into some trouble in the bottom of the ninth but eventually closed the door on the series-clinching victory. With their 18th win of 2025, the Tigers have more wins in a single season since 2019 when the team went 23-26. That same year, the Tigers swept the Broncos on the road, which also marks the last time Pacific won a series at SCU.

Pacific will go for the series sweep tomorrow with a first pitch scheduled for noon PDT. The Tigers will then return home for a season-long eight-game home stand, beginning Tuesday night at 6 p.m. PDT against Fresno State at Klein Family. Field.
