STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific softball team got to LMU early with three first inning runs and then caught the Lions at home twice to preserve the 3-2 win Sunday afternoon at Bill Simoni Field.
Juniors
Jordan Hayes and
Amanda Bricker each threw out a Lion (20-23, 5-3 WCC) runner at the plate to rob LMU of the two runs needed to take the lead.
Pacific's (14-29, 3-6 WCC) three runs meanwhile came on three consecutive swings from seniors
Delaney Scully,
Emma Dazell, and freshman
Jayleen Scott in the first inning. Scully completes a week in which she hit over .500 at the plate, raising her season average 31 points to .291.
On the afternoon, all eight Tiger hits were singles, marking the first time the team has won a game without an extra-base hit since April 2024 at San Diego.
Playing with that early lead, starting pitcher sophomore
Justice Alcaraz spun five innings of two-run softball, largely relying on her defense to get her out of innings. Of the 15 outs she recorded, she forced 12 of them to groundout, two to flyout and one strikeout. The sophomore earned her ninth win of the season in the process.
Working the remaining two innings was freshman
Alexa Lewis, who tallied her first collegiate save. She struck out three of the seven batters she faced to give her a team leading 46 strikeouts.
The team is off until next Saturday when the team travels to face San Diego in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
OTHER NOTES OF INTEREST
- With two more hits today, junior Olivia Silvrestre is ten hits away from cracking the single season top ten in base hits. She would be the first Tiger since 2012 to make the list.
- Silvestre is already tied for ninth all-time in single season doubles.
