STOCKTON, Calif. – Senior
Delaney Scully put up two multi-hit games to pace Pacific offensively, but the team could not solve the LMU pitching staff in an 8-4 loss in game one and 3-0 loss in game two of Friday's doubleheader at Bill Simoni Field.
Scully has been on a tear in the last week for the Tigers (13-29, 2-6 WCC), collecting nine hits in her last 21 at bats (.429 batting average) and has two or more hits in each of her last three games now for the Tigers. The recent hot streak brings her to a current season total of 33 hits – moving her into third place on the team and raising her batting average to .287 with eight games left in the regular season.
GAME 1
The team enjoyed early success of LMU's (20-22, 5-2 WCC) starter, scoring two runs in the second inning – one coming on a double from senior
Emma Dazell and the other from a sacrifice fly from freshman
Peyton Clifford. Of Pacific's nine hits in the contest, four came in the first two innings and knocked the Lion starter out of the contest after just recording four outs.
However, when LMU switched to Jessica Hubbard the Tiger chances became much more spread out, only threatening again in the sixth inning. That said, Pacific would convert that chance into two more runs – using a pinch-hit RBI double from senior
Aly Waltermeyer to score Dazell and junior
Allie Capello. The pair of RBIs are Waltermeyer's second and third of the season.
An LMU run in the seventh inning and a three-up-three-down bottom of the inning would snuff out Pacific's comeback bid.
Sophomore
Justice Alcaraz was tagged with the loss for Pacific, giving her an 8-7 record on the season. She opened the first four innings of the game and gave up six runs, five earned, on seven hits and two walks.
Senior
Hannah Glad worked the remaining three innings only giving up two runs on four hits.
GAME 2
Freshman
Alexa Lewis was lights out for the first five innings of the game, giving up only one hit and two walks – none of which ever managed to advance past first base. In the sixth inning however,
LMU strung together three hits in four batters to plate all three runs and knock Lewis from the game.
She ended up taking the loss for Pacific and has a record of 2-7.
The Tiger offense was equally flummoxed in the game, only once moving a runner to third base in the four hits and one walk that managed to reach base.
Senior
Desiree Smith's five outs pitching in relief were clutch for Pacific, conceding only one hit that did not lead to any additional damage on the scoreboard.
UP NEXT
Pacific concludes the series against LMU with a single game at noon. In West Coast Conference play, the Tigers are 2-0 and on the season are 3-1 in the third game of a three-game series.
