STOCKTON, Calif. – Junior
Jake Tandy crushed a walk-off grand slam to power the Pacific baseball program to a dramatic, come-from-behind 8-6 victory over San Francisco on Friday night at Klein Family Field.
Down to their final two outs, the Tigers (15-25, 3-8 WCC) surged with another ninth-inning rally to ignite the offense with Tandy putting the cherry on top with his second career grand slam to defeat the Dons (16-23, 5-9 WCC) and even up the series.
"It was a great team win," Pacific head coach
Reed Peters said. "I knew it if we could get it to Tandy, we'd have a chance. He's done it before. It was a huge home run for us and a big win for us."
Tandy, who went 2-for-4 tonight with the clutch walk-off hit, becomes the first Tiger to hit a grand slam at Klein Family Field since the 2020 season when Joe Fitzhugh hit one in a 14-12 victory over California Baptist.
Furthermore, Tandy's walk-off grand slam is the first since the Tigers rejoined the West Coast Conference in 2013. It marks the Tigers' second grand slam of the 2025 campaign as sophomore
Braeden Schnabel hit one earlier this year at Seattle.
"It's the moment that you dream of," Tandy said. "We strung together great at-bats in that ninth inning and got guys on. Once I got up to the plate, it was adrenaline from there. I was lucky I got one good. It was a super cool moment."
For the third time in the last three weeks, the Tigers rallied to earn a comeback victory in a series. Senior
Jakob Guardado earned his second win of the season following a strong start from senior
Adan Perez while USF's Kolby Calia was handed the loss after surrendering the grand slam in the last frame.
Pacific trailed 6-4 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning. Fifth-year
John-Howard Bobo, who was a productive presence with a pair of hits and a sacrifice fly, laced a lead-off single to kick-start the rally.
After a pinch-hit walk by junior
Kaden Petersen and a base hit by senior
Drake Bicknell to load the bases, Tandy delivered the towering shot to left field high over the wall to give Pacific its second walk-off victory of the season.
The Tigers earned their ninth win within the friendly confines of Klein Family Field and 15th win on the year, which is the most in a season since the 2021 campaign.
Pacific and USF will complete the series with a rubber match tomorrow slated for 1 p.m. PDT from Klein Family Field on Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day. The Tigers seek their first series victory over the Dons since 2016.
