STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball program resumed West Coast Conference action, dropping the series opener to San Francisco in a 4-2 decision Thursday night at Klein Family Field.
The Tigers (14-25, 2-8 WCC) brought home the first run of the contest, but the Dons (15-22, 5-8 WCC) capitalized in the middle innings to take the first game of the series.
Sophomore
Regan Carter made his sixth start of the season on the mound, tossing 2.0 scoreless innings and tying a season-high with three strikeouts in his outing. Senior
Ethan Shaver (2-2) was handed the loss after giving up two earned runs in 2.1 innings of work.
Offensively, the Tigers got RBI contributions from their veteran players in senior
Drake Bicknell and fifth year
John-Howard Bobo. Both RBIs for the Tigers came with two outs.
The Dons got quality pitching their bullpen as it allowed just one earned run in six innings of relief. Kenny DeCelle hit a home run that proved to be a spark for the Dons' offense.
The Tigers struck first in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by Bicknell to go up, 1-0.
A two-RBI triple by the Dons gave them a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth before the Tigers tied it up in the bottom of the frame with two-out rally concluded by Bobo.
The Dons took the lead in the top of the sixth and never looked back, despite bringing the tying runner to the plate with two outs in the bottom of the ninth.
Pacific and USF will square up in game two of the series tomorrow with a first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. from Klein Family Field.
