PORTLAND, Ore. – With one match remaining in the regular season, the Pacific men's tennis team visits Portland on Thursday morning at 11 a.m. with the number two seed still in play at the upcoming West Coast Conference tournament.
The Tigers (13-8, 4-2 WCC) swept both meetings with the Pilots (7-9, 1-5 WCC) last season and are looking to finish the regular season 5-2 in the WCC and match the highest amount of conference victories in the Head Coach
Robin Goodman era.
Junior
Tiago Silva enjoyed a lot of success against the Pilots last season – collecting singles and doubles wins in both matchups last season. Senior
Justas Trainauskas was similarly effective, winning his singles match in both contests and the doubles match in the regular season.
Should Pacific defeat Portland, it would mean the team clinches the second seed in the WCC tournament if Pepperdine loses at San Diego on Friday via the tiebreaker and outright if Pepperdine also loses against Saint Mary's on Saturday.
In the most recent national rankings, the doubles duo of graduate
Ran Amar and sophomore
Christof Schaertlin Coffey checked in at no. 65 after posting an 8-3 record as of Tuesday.
The latter of the duo has also been crucial to the team's success, compiling an 8-3 record in his last 12 appearances.
