SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Faced with a 3-1 deficit, the Pacific women's tennis program very nearly completed the comeback bid to defeat Santa Clara but ultimately fell 4-3 at the Degheri Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
The architects of the team's furious comeback were sophomores
Milena Maiorova and
Indiya McLeod, who pulled out wins on singles courts two and three respectively. After the pair each dropped closely contested second sets, they locked in to convincingly take the third sets 6-3.
McLeod has turned into a very consistent performer in conference play with three wins for the team. Maiorova however was locked in from the outset of the match, quickly winning on doubles court three with sophomore
Rayna Sugai 6-2.
Senior
Alexis Sam also scored a point for Pacific (5-14, 0-6 WCC) by winning in straight sets on court four.
Looking ahead the team wraps up the regular season at home, facing Pepperdine on Friday and then celebrating senior day on Saturday against LMU. Friday's match begins at 1 p.m. and will feature a free pizza promotion while Saturday's match will begin at 11 a.m. and has a free boba promotion to accompany the senior day festivities.
