Late Rallies Power Pacific Past California Baptist in Extra Innings Victory

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Pacific baseball program was quiet most of the night until sophomore Braeden Schnabel and the offense woke up in the late stages of the contest to give Pacific a 9-7 victory in ten innings over California Baptist on Saturday night at James W. Totman Stadium.

The Tigers (14-22) evened up the series behind a pinch-hit, go-ahead three-run home run by Schnabel and a two-out, two-run single in the tenth inning by senior Drake Bicknell to put the cherry on top of a come-from-behind win over the Lancers (19-16).

The Pacific bullpen played its part in limiting the damage late as senior Ethan Shaver (2-1) picked up his second win of the season in relief by closing the door on the Tigers' first extra innings victory of the 2025 campaign.

"It was a tremendous job by our bullpen tonight," head coach Reed Peters said. "Senior Jarryd Wood getting us out of that bases loaded jam was a big momentum boost. Schnabel's pinch-hit home run was huge. Most proud of them the way we responded after they tied it up late. Big two-out hits and a great day for Drake. Overall, a great team win!"

For the second time in as many weeks, Pacific rallied late to earn a comeback victory. Trailing 6-1 after six innings, the Tigers scored two in the top of the seventh and three more on Schnabel's third home run of the season to put his team on top.

Cal Baptist was able to tie the game up in the bottom of the ninth, but the two out Tigers found a way to respond as Bicknell smashed a single up the middle to bring home his third and fourth RBI of the night in the tenth inning. Bicknell ended up going 3-for-4 on the day with a fifth-inning home run and four RBI to his name.

Redshirt sophomore Andrew Sloan and redshirt senior JT Waldon recorded multi-hit performances while junior Jake Tandy extended his hitting streak to six games by sparking the two-out rally in the tenth inning.

The contest began with a solo home run by graduate student Brian McClellin, who became the first Tiger to hit a lead-off home run since Chase Graves completed the feat on March 3, 2024 at Sacramento State. It was the second home run of the season for McClellin and his second home run in his last three games.

Senior Adan Perez made the start for the Tigers, who went just 2.0 innings and allowed CBU to jump out to a 6-1 edge after two innings.

The Tigers' bullpen did their job to keep the rest of the Lancers at bay. The five relief pitchers collected eight strikeouts and gave up just four hits total in the last eight innings to aid Pacific's pitching front at the end.

The two teams will go head-to-head in the rubber match tomorrow with a first pitch slated for noon PDT from James W. Totman Stadium. Pacific will complete its season-long seven-game road trip and return home to face Cal State Bakersfield on Tuesday night at Klein Family Field.
