Box Score STOCKTON, Calif. – In the battle of the Tigers, the No. 59 Pacific men's tennis team got off to a strong start by winning doubles, but No. 17 Princeton was able to grab four singles courts for a 4-3 decision Sunday in front of a lively crowd at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.
An unbeaten day came from junior
Terence Das. He clinched the doubles point alongside junior
Tiago Silva on court three, 6-4, and followed it up with a 6-4, 7-6 (5) victory in singles on court six. Das and Silva improved to 7-2 on the year in doubles.
On court one in doubles, the team of graduate
Ran Amar and sophomore
Christof Schaertlin Coffey won 6-4. Pacific (6-6) was also ahead 5-4 on court two with senior
Justas Trainauskas and freshman
Jonty Giesen in an unfinished match.
Pacific had its chances in singles, but Princeton (16-4) won a trio of straight-setters on courts one, two and four to leap ahead. Princeton won a critical three-set match on court three to clinch the match.
The teams played out the final court, which freshman
Vraj Patel came back to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. It was his third consecutive win after winning straight-set matches against South Florida and Montana.
Pacific will remain at home next Sunday to host Eastern Washington at 10 a.m. at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.
