Guardado’s Gem Spoiled in Series Finale

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Jakob Guardado pitched a nine-inning outing, but Sacramento State secured the walk-off win over Pacific by a 1-0 margin Sunday at John Smith Field.

The Tigers (8-8) and Hornets (9-6) battled in pitcher's duel all afternoon, but the home team ultimately prevailed with the walk-off home run for the result.

Guardado looked sharp all day, throwing 9.0 innings and surrendering no runs on just two hits. His nine strikeouts were a career high as a Tiger.

On the other side, Ethan Lay pitched seven innings of one-hit ball. Jakob Poturnak hit the walk-off home run with one out in the bottom of the tenth off junior Jarryd Wood (0-2).

Pacific will resume its schedule with a pair of games at Cal State Bakersfield, beginning Tuesday at Hardt Field. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
