Baseball’s Late Rally Falls Short in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Pacific baseball program nearly completed a comeback in the top of the ninth inning but ultimately fell 6-5 to Cal State Bakersfield Tuesday at Hardt Field.

The Tigers (8-9) had the tying run on first base with two outs, but the Roadrunners' (7-10) defense held on for the result.

Junior Jake Tandy was a key contributor for Pacific, reaching safely all four times to the plate with three hits and a pair of walks. Freshman Diego Davis also displayed some confidence, adding another multi-hit performance from the two hole.

On the mound, Pacific threw freshman Justin Iglesias (0-1), who turned in 2.2 innings of work in his second start of the season. Sophomore Regan Carter was sharp in his relief appearance, going 2.0 innings with a pair of strikeouts.

A big six-run third inning for the Roadrunners proved to be the difference in the ball game after Pacific jumped out in front 3-0.

The Tigers added one run in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by senior Jarryd Wood, cutting the deficit to 6-4. Wood was 1-for-2 at the plate with two RBI.

In the top of the ninth, Pacific got two on and two out. Davis was able to score on a knock by redshirt senior JT Waldon, but Tandy got caught in between second and third base to ultimately end the night.

Pacific continues to show fight in these closely contested ball games, marking their fourth straight game being decided by one run.

The Tigers look to regroup and split the pair of midweek contests tomorrow at Hardt Field. First pitch is at 11 a.m. PST.
