STOCKTON, Calif. – A five-run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning capped by a three-run home run by junior
Jake Tandy propelled the Pacific baseball program to a 6-5 win over Sacramento State Saturday at Klein Family Field.
The Tigers (8-7) roared to life late, thanks to a two-out, three-run home run by Tandy that put the Hornets (8-6) away, evening up the series at one game apiece.
Senior
Adan Perez turned in a quality start and his longest outing of the season, pitching 6.2 innings with just two earned runs while striking out six Hornet hitters.
Junior
Rylan Evans and freshman
Diego Davis collected multi-hit performances, but the big swing of the bat belonged to Tandy, who crushed his first home run of the year.
Down 5-1 entering the eighth inning, Pacific scored five runs on four hits to take a 6-5 lead.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Tigers were able to get out of the jam with a double play to right field.
Pacific now improves to 3-2 in one-run contests and 7-3 within the friendly confines of Klein Family Field.
The two teams will lock horns tomorrow, returning to Sacramento State for the rubber match. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. PST.
