Men’s Tennis Wins 4-3 Thriller on Road at LMU

Box Score LOS ANGELES – Freshman Nico Rating won the deciding match in a third set tiebreaker Sunday to clinch a 4-3 win over LMU at the LMU Tennis Center, keeping the Pacific men's tennis program unbeaten in West Coast Conference.

Rating won the decisive tiebreaker 7-4 as he improved to 3-1 in singles this season for Pacific (11-6, 3-0 WCC).

Prior to Rating's heroics, the Tigers were put in front early thanks to solid doubles performances from the duos of junior Tiago Silva/freshman Vraj Patel and senior Justas Trainauskas/freshman Jonty Giesen. Both pairs cruised to 6-3 wins on courts three and two respectively.

Silva went a perfect 4-0 on the weekend to aid the winning effort. Winning this singles match by a score of 6-1, 6-3, Silva has not allowed any WCC opponent this season to take more than three games from him in any set.

Sophomore Christof Schaertlin Coffey continued to provide steady production from court six for the Tigers, overcoming a first set singles deficit to score the Tigers third point – improving to 6-1 in the month of March in eight total appearances. The sophomore is also currently riding a five-match winning streak in singles.

Pacific remains on the road for the coming week, traveling to Pepperdine on Friday and then San Diego on Sunday.
