SAN JOSE, Calif. – Despite having the tying run in the on-deck circle in the top of the ninth inning, the Pacific baseball program dropped its Tuesday contest to San Jose State, 8-4, at Excite Ballpark.
The Tigers (10-16, 0-3 WCC) were held to four runs and four hits against the Spartans (16-9, 4-2 MW) in their lone midweek match of the week.
Junior
Rylan Evans and redshirt sophomore
Andrew Sloan each walked in a run during the Tigers' two-run top of the seventh. Sloan extended his on-base streak to 16 consecutive games with that walk. Senior
Drake Bicknell extended his hitting streak to six games in a row with a ninth-inning single that brought the Tigers within four.
Sophomore
Regan Carter (0-3) earned the decision after giving up two earned runs on four hits. Redshirt junior
Austin McKinney fired two innings of scoreless ball in relief.
Sophomore
Adrian Vidal walked three times from the nine hole, marking the first time the native of Miami, Florida has accomplished that feat. Senior
DJ Scott collected a multi-hit night with a run-scoring single in the eighth inning.
The Spartans opened the scoring with two in the second and three in the third to jump in front, 5-0. Pacific attempted to claw back in the late stages of the contest but ultimately came up short with the tying runner on the on-deck circle in the bottom of the ninth.
Pacific resumes conference action with its West Coast Conference road-opening series at Gonzaga, beginning Friday at 6 p.m. PDT. The Tigers will face the Spartans when the team returns to Stockton on Tuesday, April 1 at Klein Family Field with a 6:05 p.m. first pitch.
