Softball Outlasts Portland State, Clinches Series Win

HILLSBORO, Ore. – Pacific scored six runs in the final two innings and survived a seventh inning rally from Portland State to take game three of the series 11-7 and clinch a series win for the West Coast Conference in the WCC/Big Sky Challenge.

The Tigers (11-19) had no problem putting consistent pressure on the Vikings (5-26), tallying 12 hits across the seven innings with seven of them coming in the final two frames. Pacific is 10-1 this season when tallying ten or more hits.

A large reason Pacific was so efficient converting its hits into runs was due to the timely hitting of freshman Jayleen Scott and senior Emma Dazell. Each tallied three RBIs on the afternoon, representing a new career-high for the former.

The latter's RBIs have come in bunches as of the nine times she has knocked in a run this season, five of those have been multi-RBI games for her. With the three runs batted in this afternoon, she jumps into second on the team in the category, just one behind senior Delaney Scully for the lead.

Also notching a multi-RBI game was freshman Alyssa Garcia who got her RBIs via a two-run homer to centerfield – the blast was the first of her career in just her sixth game of the season.

Junior Allie Capello also had a strong weekend for the Tigers, batting .500 over the series with four RBIs.

Earning her second win of the weekend in the circle was sophomore Justice Alcaraz who went four innings and allowed three earned runs – she improved to 7-4 on the season. In just three more wins she will become the first Tiger pitcher since Marissa Young in 2017 to win ten games.

Slamming the door shut on the Viking rally, also for the second time this weekend, was senior Hannah Glad – working a scoreless appearance on two hits and a strikeout.

Pacific is done for the month of March and will be back in action on April 1 against Sacramento State, back in Stockton. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
