STOCKTON, Calif. – Pacific softball twice overcame early deficits and late rallies to earn a 7-5 win over San Jose State and 10-7 win over UC Riverside on the final day of the Libby Matson Tournament at Bill Simoni field Sunday morning.
GAME 1
Pacific (9-8) fell behind 3-1 but responded with six runs on twelve hits the rest of the way, courtesy of a couple clutch performers.
Junior
Olivia Silvestre and senior
Delaney Scully engineered the Tiger comeback with two hits and three RBIs each. Scully spread her RBIs out over two appearances, using the first to plate the game-tying runs in the fourth inning before Silvestre tallied her three RBIs with a single swing of the bat just two batters later. Silvestre's bases clearing knock ended up a double, her fourth of the tournament (she would later make it five with a two-bagger in the following game) and has now doubled in four consecutive contests.
Scully meanwhile this season has been known for bringing runners in in droves, tallying her third three-RBI game of the season and has more three-plus RBI games this season than her previous three seasons combined (had two such games in 2022).
Pacific's other RBI of the contest belonged to freshman
Presley Barnes with a single in the second inning, it was her second career RBI.
Sophomore
Justice Alcaraz picked up the win and moved to 5-2 in the contest and in doing so continued a trend of bringing out the best in her offense as she is 4-0 when giving up three or more runs.
GAME 2
Barnes answered UC Riverside's (9-13) two runs in the top half of the first inning with her first collegiate home run well over the right centerfield wall to push Pacific ahead for good 4-2.
However, Barnes' shot was not the only fireworks provided by the Tiger attack. Senior
Emma Dazell and junior
Amanda Bricker each took their turns trotting around the bases after two-run homers. For
Bricker, the homer is her fourth of the past eight games while Dazell's was her second of the year.
Combined with Silvestre and senior
Emily Budelli and the top four hitters of Pacific's lineup combined to go 9-for-14 from at the plate.
Silvestre's three hits against the Highlanders meant she hit .500 (8-16) at the Libby Matson and also owns a five-game streak of at least one double.
In addition to the hits, both Bricker and Silvestre came around to score three runs.
Five runs in the sixth and seventh innings threatened Pacific's lead but three runs of its own in the sixth and senior
Hannah Glad's first save of the season safely guided the Tigers to the victory.
Notching the win in the circle was freshman
Kiley Shea, marking her first collegiate win.
UP NEXT
The Tigers are back on the road, this time heading to Fresno, Calif. On Mar. 8-9 for the Bulldog Classic hosted by Fresno State. Pacific plays two games each day in doubleheader fashion.
