BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – A key six-run sixth inning sparked a comeback for the Pacific baseball program that pushed them to a season-high 11 runs in an 11-10 victory over Cal State Bakersfield Wednesday afternoon at Hardt Field.
The Tigers (9-9) split the two-game series with the Roadrunners (7-11) after the barn burner that compiled 21 runs, 22 hits and nine errors.
"It wasn't pretty," head coach
Reed Peters said. "We battled and found a way to win. We took advantage of their mistakes. Good teams do that."
Sophomore
Adrian Vidal set the table well all afternoon, putting together his best performance as a Tiger with a career-high four hits, two runs and a walk. His four hits in a game are the most by a Pacific player this season.
The heart of the order for Pacific each collected two hits with senior
Jarryd Wood, junior
Jake Tandy and redshirt senior
JT Waldon doing their part to keep the line going.
Junior
Brett Mallett (1-1) picked up his first win as a Tiger, pitching a clean 1.2 innings of work. Senior
Ethan Shaver picked up his second save of the season as the Tigers now have six saves in the 2025 campaign.
The turning point of the contest for the Tigers was when they hit around in the order in the top of the sixth. Down 9-3, Pacific roared back with six runs on five hits to knot the game up at nine runs apiece.
Pacific continued to use momentum in its favor, adding two runs in the top of the seventh to hold a 11-9 advantage. The Roadrunners added one more after the seventh inning stretch to make it, 11-10 Pacific.
A key moment in the ball game came in the bottom of the eighth inning as redshirt sophomore
Carson Revay escaped a jam with a pair of strikeouts to eliminate a bases-loaded situation.
Shaver came on to pitch the bottom of the ninth and got the job done, slamming the door shut on the one-run victory by a 11-10 margin.
The Tigers now have their eyes set on a three-game road trip against the Sycamores, beginning Friday at 4 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. PDT.
