TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – In the first-ever meeting between the two programs, Pacific baseball dropped the series opener, 5-3, at Indiana State Friday at Bob Warn Field.
The Tigers (9-10) struck first and carried a lead into the sixth inning, but the Sycamores (8-10) capitalized in a key four-run frame and ultimately held on for the result.
Sophomore
Regan Carter recorded the longest outing of his Tigers' career, going 4.0 innings with a pair of strikeouts. Carter also induced a big double play to end a scoring threat in the bottom of the fourth inning to cap his performance.
Junior
Rylan Evans opened up the scoring in the top of the second with a two-run home run to centerfield following redshirt
JT Waldon's single. Evans finished the day with three RBI to his name.
The Sycamores found life late in the bottom of the sixth as the home team tacked on four runs to take a 5-2 lead. Indiana State's Keegan Garis and Eli Gipson hit home runs during that four-run rally.
Pacific tacked on one run in the top of the eighth on an error, cutting the deficit to 5-3.
The Tigers attempted to make a comeback in the top of the ninth, bringing the tying runner up to the plate, but fell just short.
Pacific and Indiana State will go head-to-head in the middle game of the series tomorrow at 1 p.m. EDT/10 a.m. PDT.
