Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Defense Stifles Pepperdine Again in Season Sweep

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific women's basketball clamped down defensively and cruised to a 68-41 win over Pepperdine on Saturday afternoon from the Alex G. Spanos Center, posting the regular season sweep in the process.

The 41 points were the second fewest points allowed in a win in the Head Coach Bradley Davis era, behind only the 38 his team allowed to Portland on Feb. 18, 2016 (his first season as head coach). A driving force behind the defensive success this afternoon was a frenetic defense that forced 25 turnovers and stole 14 balls.

Pacific's (12-13, 8-7 WCC) back court feasted on Pepperdine (8-15, 3-11 WCC) as graduate Liz Smith tallied four steals and senior Anaya James had three of her own. The pair also paced the team offensive with James scoring 15 points (7-for-10 shooting) and six assists while Smith had 14 points (5-for-11 shooting).

The Tigers bench play was equally effective as sophomore Jamie Kent notched her first career double-double with career-highs in both points and rebounds (12 points, 13 rebounds). Kent also drilled her first three-pointer in the opening quarter.

Freshman Daria Nestorov contributed to every facet of the game and finished with a final stat line of 10 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. The freshman hit two more three-pointers as well.

Pepperdine has struggled to find any offensive rhythm in the series against Pacific, failing to reach 60 points in the last five meetings and has been held under 50 points in consecutive trips to Stockton.

Pacific remains at home for its next game, hosting the San Diego Toreros on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Spanos Center before taking off to San Francisco to face the Dons at the Sobrato Center on Saturday at 2 p.m. Both matches are streamed on ESPN+.
