Softball Drops Doubleheader at Stanford Invitational

STANFORD, Calif. – A pair of home runs by junior Olivia Silvestre highlighted the first full day of the season for the Pacific softball program as the program fell 13-2 to Long Beach State and 5-1 to Fresno State on Friday at Stanford Stadium.

Game 1
Play against Long Beach State (1-0) resumed in the bottom of the first with the Tigers (0-2) down 5-0 with Pacific runners on first and second when rain first suspended the contest. Pacific was unable to advance those runners any further but did break through in the second with an RBI single from Silvestre that brought senior Nina Davis home. Silvestre later homered in the final frame of the game to give the Tigers their other run.

Senior Hannah Glad worked 3.1 innings in relief giving up seven runs, though only one was earned, and struck out one. Freshman Kiley Shea recorded the final four outs of the contest, surrendering one unearned run on three hits. Senior Desiree Smith took the loss as she was had given up the five runs prior to the rain delay.

Game 2
Silvestre followed up her game one performance with a leadoff homer to put Pacific ahead of the Bulldogs 1-0. The Tiger pitching staff could not hold this early lead, conceding two runs in the bottom half of the first. The offense did garner seven more hits in the contest, including two from senior Emily Budelli, but could only once advance a runner to third base (which was Budelli in inning four via a wild pitch).

Freshman Alexa Lewis spun a complete game in the circle, navigating 11 hits and five walks to only give up five runs (four earned) and struck out five batters. The freshman right-hander stranded 10 Fresno State runners on the afternoon while Pacific's offense stranded nine.

On Saturday Pacific will wrap up its weekend in Stanford with a matchup against the Seattle Redhawks. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. from Stanford Stadium.
