STOCKTON, Calif. – The women's basketball program will be celebrating its three graduating players and one dedicated student assistant Saturday when the team faces Portland at 1 p.m. on senior day to close out the regular season following a game against Gonzaga at 6 p.m. on Thursday from the Alex G. Spanos Center.
Graduate
Liz Smith, seniors
Anaya James and
Elizabeth Elliott, and senior student assistant
Endigo Parker will be honored for their contributions on and off the court to the program prior to tip off on Saturday.
With only two games remaining in the regular season, Pacific (13-15, 9-9 WCC) has a lot of say in the seeding in the upcoming conference tournament. Gonzaga (20-9, 15-3 WCC) and Portland (26-3, 15-3 WCC) sit tied atop the WCC entering Thursday's slate of games and two wins by the Tigers could very well position the team for a fourth-place regular season finish.
In the first match-up against Gonzaga this year, Pacific fell just four points shy of the victory – highlighted by 19 points from Elliott on a perfect 9-for-9 shooting performance.
Pacific's defense on the season has forced 556 turnovers and blocked 119 shots. In just 12 more turnovers forced, this Pacific team will have forced the most turnovers in the head coach
Bradley Davis era, and on pace for 597 total forced, would be the most period since the 2013-14 team (617).
The 119 blocks on the season already rank third in program history single-season, and in 14 more blocks would attain second most all-time. The leader of this Pacific block is junior
Sydney Ward, who recently cracked the top-100 nationally and sits 97th with her 34 blocks.
Against Portland, the Tigers will be looking for a second consecutive victory over the Pilots at the Spanos Center. Smith and James were both key contributors to that winning effort by scoring 17 and 15 points, respectively. The former also added in six boards while the ladder dished out seven dimes.
When these two met in Portland in December, James was on triple-double watch with 15 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. Elliott was Pacific's big gun with 24 points on 9-for-10 shooting.
Both games this weekend will be streamed on ESPN+.
