MTEN Recap at GCU / vs. UNLV

Men’s Tennis Collects Two Ranked Wins over Weekend

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Pacific men's tennis program began its weekend by blanking No. 62 Grand Canyon 4-0 on Friday and then followed that up with a 4-1 win over No. 73 UNLV Saturday morning, both at the GCU Tennis Complex.

Match 1
Pacific (4-4) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after graduate Ran Amar and sophomore Christof Schaertlin Coffey breezed by their opponent on court one and then shortly after, juniors Tiago Silva and Terence Das pulled out the court three win to clinch the point in Pacific's favor.

Amar and Schaertlin Coffey had entered the weekend at the 71st-ranked doubles pair in the country.

The singles portion continued to favor the Tigers as Silva was granted the win on court one after his opponent withdrew due to injury. Freshman Jonty Giesen on court five and Das on court six both won in straight sets to clinch the match over the Lopes (6-3).

At the point in which play was stopped, Amar on court three and freshman Vraj Patel both held leads in set three.

With the win, Pacific moves to 4-1 all-time over GCU and won the first ever meeting between the two on GCU's home courts.

Match 2
Pacific overcame a doubles deficit for the first time this season, sweeping the singles portion 4-0.

Das and Silva once again cruised to a quick 6-1 win on doubles court three. Individually, the pair earned points for the Tigers with straight set wins on courts one and six.

Patel and Amar were the other two-point scorers for Pacific as Patel's 6-2 win in set three on court four clinched the match for the Tigers and earned the win.

Pacific's triumph over UNLV is the first in program history.
