NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Across the opening two games of the CSUN Matador Classic, senior
Emma Dazell knocked across five RBIs to lead Pacific to 4-2 and 10-3 wins over Cal State Northridge on Friday at the Matador Diamond.
GAME 1
Pacific (2-3) overcame an early two run deficit to the Matadors (1-5) by chipping away at the two runs conceded in the first innings. Junior
Olivia Silvestre got the comeback started for Pacific in the fifth with a double to left center that forced an error and allowed senior
Kyla Eck to score from first. Dazell then promptly brought Silvestre home with her first RBI of the contest on a single.
Freshman
Jayleen Scott put Pacific ahead with her pinch-hit RBI single. In that fifth inning Pacific converted four of its hits into runs and stranded two. Dazell iced the game for the Tigers with an RBI single to right in the seventh, which gave freshman
Alexa Lewis all the cushion she needed to work around a Matador double in the seventh.
The freshman righty spun her first complete game in the win, scattering six hits across the seven frames and lowered her season ERA to 2.15 as neither run she gave up was earned. Lewis also struck out three.
GAME 2
The fifth was once again pivotal to the Tigers success as they scored four runs to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 5-3 advantage by the time the sixth inning rolled around.
This time is senior
Emily Budelli to provide the heroics as she smacked an RBI triple to right field in a bases loaded situation to put Pacific in front 4-2. Budelli herself came around to score a batter later when
Emma Dazell brought her in via the sacrifice fly.
Freshman
Peyton Clifford notched her first collegiate RBIs in inning six off an RBI single to center to plate runs six and seven. The combination of Budelli and Dazell once again brought in a runner each and then senior
Nikki Enriquez singled in a run to close scoring at ten.
Dazell finished her day 4-for-7 from the dish with five RBIs and just a single runner left on base.
Pacific conserved its pitching once again as sophomore
Justice Alcaraz tossed a complete game win, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits.
