STOCKTON, Calif. – Fighting for seeding at the West Coast Conference Tournament, the Pacific women's basketball program hosts San Diego in the Alex G. Spanos Center on Thursday at 6 p.m. before making the short trek to San Francisco for a date with the Dons in the Sobrato Center on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Pacific (12-13, 8-7 WCC) enters the week in sixth-place in the very compact conference standings. The Tigers are just one game out of fourth-place and two games out of third.
Thursday's game against San Diego (4-19, 0-14 WCC) has the Tigers riding a five-game winning streak over the Toreros, the second longest winning streak by either school in the series. The past two match-ups with San Diego have produced close contests with Pacific pulling out six-point wins in each instance. In the most recent meeting, Pacific shot 20 free throws in the fourth quarter and senior
Anaya James sank seven of eight attempts in the final minute to ice the game in the Tigers' favor.
Against San Francisco (11-13, 8-7) on Saturday, Pacific looks to make it three straight wins over the Dons for the first time since the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons. Graduate
Liz Smith produced a WCC best seven steals in the last match-up, while
Anaya James scored 19 points and shot 3-for-5 from three to lead the Tigers offensively.
The Sobrato Center has been a tough place for the Tigers in recent memory with the last win coming in 2019. However, Pacific's last trip to the Hill saw
Anaya James put up 21 points while Smith played a complete game in what was the closest decision since that 2019 win.
Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
