BERKELEY, Calif. – Giving Cal all it could handle, the Pacific men's basketball program had a look to tie it with nine seconds left, but it was off the mark in a 67-61 final Saturday at Haas Pavilion.
Â
Pacific (7-3) was rallying from a 13-point second half deficit when it had the ball down 64-61. The Tigers put up a contested three-pointer from the right wing, but it was off target and they were forced to foul. Cal made free throws in the end to make it a six-point game.
Â

Â
The Tigers got off to a slow start and trailed 14-2 at the 14:38 mark, and Cal continued to lead 25-11 with 8:13 left.
Â
Still down 29-16, a three by junior
Kajus Kublickas sparked a 7-0 run as a lay-in by Rochelin trimmed it to 29-23 with 3:15 to go. The Golden Bears got their lead back up to double-figures, but a pair of free throws by Ralph made it 36-27 Cal at the intermission.
Â
The Tigers trailed 52-39 with 13:18 left in the second half when they started chipping away. A floater by Wainwright began a 7-0 run and a three by Clayton cut it to 52-47 with 10:08 remaining. A lay-in by Clayton kept Pacific down 59-54 with 4:51 to go.
Â
To more buckets by Clayton made it a one possession game, 63-61, with 25 seconds left. After a Pacific foul, Cal made one of two free throws which led to the final sequence where the Tigers had a look to even it from three.
Â
Pacific was 2-of-12 (.167) from three in the first half but shot it better for a 5-of-11 (.455) clip in the second.
