Burg’s Floater Sparks Run in Win over Sac State

STOCKTON, Calif. – Senior Hannah Burg hit a floater as the third quarter buzzer sounded to give Pacific a lead it would not relinquish in the fourth and pulled away for a 67-54 win over Sacramento State at the Alex G. Spanos Center on Thursday night.

The basket sparked an 8-2 Tigers (4-4) run that put the lead at seven going into a media timeout with seven minutes remaining in the game and from there never dipped below six points and swelled as high as 13 when the buzzer sounded. One of the driving forces behind the run, and indeed the Pacific offense all night, was sophomore Daria Nestorov who scored eight of her team leading 18 points in the final quarter.

The sophomore was efficient inside the perimeter, connecting on eight of 13 tries – also a career best. This season when Nestorov has gotten going, so has Pacific as she upped her scoring average to 12.5 points per game in wins. On her final line she also added four rebounds and four assists.

The other force behind the rally fellow Sophomore Winner Bartholomew and her ten points in the final quarter. Bartholomew endured a tough shooting night, going 6-for-20 from the floor but turned it on when it counted shooting 4-for-5 in the quarter and a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line to finish the contest with 14 points. In addition, she grabbed six rebounds and notched a steal.

Over the past three games the fourth quarter has become a strength for the team as Pacific outscored Sacramento State (5-5) 24-12 overall and ran its point differential out to +28 and in the past two contests has shot a combined 59.3% from the floor.

Pacific's bench was great yet again, contributing 17 points and outscoring the Hornets bench 17-7. Freshman Sophia Mindermann sniped two three-pointers while senior Luisa Anderegg flashed prowess as a passer with a season high three assists. On the season the Tigers bench is outscoring its opponents 180-157.

Coming up next, Pacific revives a series that has lain dormant for 35 years when the team travels down to San Diego to face San Diego State on Sunday. The series is tied at five wins each, tipoff from Viejas Arena is scheduled for 1 p.m. and can be seen on the Mountain West Network.
