Tigers Face Top-10 Challenge Tuesday at BYU

PROVO, Utah – Going up against a top-10 opponent for the first time in three seasons, the Pacific men's basketball program will travel to the Marriott Center for a 6 p.m. (PT) game Tuesday against No. 10 BYU.

Pacific's (8-3) last top-10 test came on Jan. 21, 2023 when it faced No. 6 Gonzaga. The program's most recent win vs. a top-10 opponent came in a 62-56 home victory over No. 10 UNLV on Feb. 4, 1993.

Additionally, the Tigers are going for their first win over a ranked opponent since March 21, 2004 when they beat No. 21 Providence in the NCAA Tournament. Pacific was the No. 12 seed and beat the fifth-seeded Friars 66-58.

Pacific and BYU (9-1) will meet for the first time since the Cougars departed the West Coast Conference at the end of the 2022-23 season. The two teams played each other twice annually from the time the Tigers joined the WCC in 2013-14 until BYU's departure.

The Tigers are coming off a historic 104-50 win over Simpson University where they broke the school record for largest margin of victory. It previously was 53 points set last year in a 94-41 win over Life Pacific.

Senior Isaac Jack went 10-of-10 from the floor and broke the school record for highest field goal percentage in a game. The record, which requires a minimum of 10 attempts, was previously held by Michael Olowokandi on Dec. 6, 1997 when he was 14-of-15 against Pepperdine. Olowokandi went on to become the No. 1 pick in the 1998 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers.

Senior Elias Ralph, a WCC Preseason All-Conference Team selection, scores a team-high 16.8 points per game and ranks second in the conference in minutes (34.5 mpg). He poured in a career-high 31 points in an 80-65 victory at Air Force on 12-of-22 shooting (7-7 FTs).

Jack is coming off back-to-back double-doubles with 15 points and 16 rebounds against Cal, and 20 points and 10 rebounds vs. Simpson. He leads the team with 6.8 rebounds per game.

Senior TJ Wainwright averages in double-figures with 13.1 points per game and has hit at least one three-pointer in every contest. He's coming off a 22-point performance against Simpson where he drilled four three-pointers.

Senior Jaden Clayton ranks second in the WCC in assists (5.5) and top-five in assist:turnover ratio (2.4). He scores 8.4 points per game with a season-high 15 points in a win over Stony Brook.

BYU has marquee wins over No. 23 Wisconsin 98-70, No. 25 North Carolina 78-76, Villanova 71-66, Miami 72-62, Clemson 67-64 and Dayton 83-79. The Cougars are coming off a 100-53 win over UC Riverside over the weekend. Their only loss was an 86-84 decision against No. 3 UConn.

The Cougars are led by AJ Dybantsa, a 6-9 freshman who averages 20.9 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. He was a consensus five-star recruit according to ESPN, 247Sports, On3 and Rivals, and was tabbed as the No. 1 recruit in the country.

Tuesday's game can be watched on ESPN+ or heard live for free on Fox Sports AM 1280 with Zack Bayrouty on the call. Pacific returns home Sunday for its non-conference finale at 4 p.m. against Nicholls at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
