Pacific’s Final Homestand Begins Wednesday with Gonzaga

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific women's soccer program starts a two-match homestand in the final week of West Coast Conference action, kicking off against Gonzaga on Staff and Faculty Appreciation Day at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Knoles Field.

The Tigers (4-7-6, 1-4-4 WCC) have been a tough customer lately for their opponents as they welcome in the Bulldogs (6-9-2, 4-3-2 WCC) for the afternoon bout.

Pacific's last five contests have all been within a goal, earning a 1-1-3 record in that stretch. That can be attributed to hard-working defense and the play of freshman goalkeeper Lis Van Herwijnen, who is coming off a career-high ten-save outing in the 1-0 road setback at Saint Mary's last Saturday.

Since allowing a combined 15 goals in a two-game stretch against Pepperdine and Seattle, Van Herwijnen has locked down as the last line of defense, allowing just three goals in her last five appearances in which she has faced 79 shots in that span. Van Herwijnen owns a 1.75 goals against average with 55 saves and four clean sheets in a dozen matches on the year.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Tigers have been called upon the likes of junior Whitney Garn and sophomore Sierah McCallum to fuel the offense, each with a team-best two goals. Fifth year Aniela Jensen has a goal and two helpers in her campaign, showcasing her effective mid-fielding distribution skill set.

Gonzaga rolls into town following a 1-0 road defeat to the hands of Portland last Friday. The Bulldogs have conference wins over San Diego, San Francisco, LMU and Seattle – all of which have come at home. Amelia Severn and Katelyn Rigg pace the Gonzaga offense with six goals on 20 or more shots on goal each.

Defensively, Michaela McCollum has started all but one game for the Bulldogs, sporting a 1.33 goals against average in 17 starts.

The Tigers seek their first victory over the Bulldogs since a 2-1 victory on Oct. 20, 2021, at Knoles Field.

The match can be viewed live on ESPN+ for the scheduled 4:30 p.m. kick-off with Dennis Ackerman on the call.
