Pacific Speeds Past Stony Brook 86-58 in Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Getting off to the races early, the Pacific men's basketball program trounced Stony Brook 86-58 on Monday morning at the GEICO Sunshine Slam on a neutral court at the Ocean Center.
 
The Tigers (4-2) went on a run midway through the first half to build a double-figure lead and kept their foot on the gas in the second half. They led by as many as 37 points and were ahead for nearly 38 minutes in the game.
 
The Tigers were clicking on all cylinders and posted season-highs in field goal percentage (.674), three-point percentage (.615) and free throw percentage (.833). They outrebounded Stony Brook (4-2) 34-21 and outscored them 32-8 in the paint.
 
Pacific saw five student-athletes score in double-figure including senior Elias Ralph who paved the way with 17 points and a pair of blocks. Season-highs came from senior Jaden Clayton with 15 points and senior KC Ibekwe was 11 points; the duo combined to go 11-for-11 from the field off the bench.
 
Scoring 10 points apiece were junior Kajus Kublickas and senior Isaac Jack. Kublickas made his first career start and drilled a pair of threes. Senior TJ Wainwright contributed with seven points and matched his career-high with eight rebounds.
 
Pacific did not allow Stony Brook to garner a double-figure scorer. Richard Goods and Rob Brown III ended with eight points apiece. Erik Pratt entered the game averaging 21.0 points per outing and was limited to six points on 1-of-10 shooting.
 
The Tigers trailed 9-7 early when Ralph drilled a three to put them ahead. Still up 14-12, Pacific scored six straight points including a pair in the post by Ibekwe to make it 20-12 with 8:49 left.
 
Back-to-back three-pointers by Clayton extended it to 29-14 with 4:36 to go. The biggest lead of the half was 35-16 after a field goal by Jack with 1:49 remaining. The Seawolves scored the final two buckets of the half but the Tigers carried a 35-20 advantage into the break.
 
It was a clean half by both teams as Pacific committed just three fouls, while SBU did not commit any.
 
The Tigers used a 7-0 spurt to increase their edge to 45-23 after a bucket by Ralph with 16:22 left. A pair of free throws by senior Alexis Marmolejos upped it to 59-30 at the 12:13 mark.
 
The largest lead of the game was 74-37 after Ibekwe scored in transition with 6:27 remaining. Pacific was still ahead 61-44 after Kublickas buried a three with 3:50 to go. Freshman Carlsheon Young made his first career appearance and played the final 3:16 minutes.
 
It will be a quick turnaround for the Tigers who play again Tuesday at 10 a.m. (PT) against Jacksonville at the Ocean Center. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
 
Pacific's next home game is against Sacramento State at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29. The Tigers are 811-462 all-time at home, 348-229 in the Alex G. Spanos Center and 2-0 this season. Pacific is 31-8 all-time against Sac State and 20-3 at home. The last meeting was a 74-58 home win on Dec. 1, 2016.
 
NOTES
- Monday was the first-ever meeting between Pacific and Stony Brook. The last time the Tigers played a school from New York was Nov. 26, 2017 when they beat Canisius 80-58 in Stockton.
 
- The last time the Tigers beat a Division I opponent by at least 28 points on a neutral court was Nov. 21, 2005 when they topped Savannah State 82-37 in Eugene, Oregon in the Hispanic College Fund Tournament.
 
- The last time Pacific won a game that tipped before noon was Nov. 22, 2012 it beat Xavier 70-67 at 11 a.m. in the opening round of the DirecTV Classic at the Anaheim Convention Center.
 
- The Tigers shot over .600 from the field for the first time since Nov. 15, 2022 when they beat North Dakota 93-63 on the road.
 
- Pacific shot over .600 from three-point range for the first time since Nov. 8, 2013 when it beat Nevada 80-78 on the road.
 
- The Tigers improved to 13-5 in two seasons under head coach Dave Smart and 4-1 this season when they outscore the opposition in the paint.
 
- Pacific is playing its first-ever games in the state of Florida as a program in the GEICO Sunshine Slam.
 
- In last year's MTE in Hawaii, Pacific won both of its neutral court match-ups defeating San Jose State 80-67 and Life Pacific 94-41.
 
- Ralph submitted his 93rd career double-figure scoring game, 33rd at Pacific and fifth this year. He was 6-of-11 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
 
- Clayton topped his previous season-high of 15 points against Life Pacific. His 6-of-6 field goal percentage was the best at Pacific since Jazz Garnder was 7-of-7 against Washington State last year. It was Clayton's 34th career double-digit scoring game and third this season.
 
- Ibekwe topped his previous season-high of eight points, set twice. On the season, he's now shooting .789 from the field. It was his seventh career double-figure scoring performance.
 
- Jack was 5-of-6 from the floor and is shooting a team-high .833 from the field on the year. It was his ninth career double-figure scoring game and second at Pacific as he was coming off an 11-point game at Florida Atlantic.
 
- Kublickas etched the second-highest scoring total of his career with 10 points. He was 2-of-3 from beyond the arc and 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
