DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Remaining in Florida, the Pacific men's basketball program will resume action in GEICO Sunshine Slam with an 8:30 a.m. (PT) tip Monday against Stony Brook at the Ocean Center.
It's the second of three games for Pacific (3-2) in Florida. The Tigers dropped their opener 82-59 Thursday at hot-shooting Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton. Senior
Elias Ralph led the team with 16 points.
Prior to this tournament, Pacific had never played a game in the state of Florida.
Ralph, a WCC Preseason All-Conference Team selection, leads the Tigers with 16.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game. He's shooting .500 (10-20) from long range and ranks first in the WCC in minutes per game (35.4).
Senior
Jaden Clayton ranks first in the WCC in assists with 7.2 per game. He dished out a season-high 11 at Nevada. Clayton scores 9.0 points per outing with a season-high 13 against Life Pacific.
Senior
TJ Wainwright averages in double-figures with 13.2 points per game. He drained 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting in the team's 85-73 road win at Cal State Fullerton. It was Pacific's first road win since Nov. 10, 2023 when it knocked off Cal 87-79.
Stony Brook (4-1) is coming off an 80-70 win over Brown. The Seawolves also have a 71-60 victory over Maine on their resume, as well as a pair of non-Division I wins. Their only loss was an 86-79 decision at Yale.
Monday's game is part of a four-team bracketed tournament. Pacific will remain in Daytona Beach for a Tuesday game against either Bethune-Cookman or Jacksonville at the Ocean Center. The Tigers are 2-2 all-time against schools from Florida with wins over Florida A&M and Florida International but defeats to FAU and Miami.
Pacific's next home game is against Sacramento State at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29. The Tigers are 811-462 all-time at home, 348-229 in the Alex G. Spanos Center and 2-0 this season. Pacific is 31-8 all-time against Sac State and 20-3 at home. The last meeting was a 74-58 home win on Dec. 1, 2016.
NOTES
- Monday is the first-ever meeting between Pacific and Stony Brook. The last time the Tigers played a school from New York was Nov. 26, 2017 when they beat Canisius 80-58 in Stockton.
- The last time Pacific tipped before noon was Nov. 7, 2022 in an 88-78 defeat at Stanford. The last time the Tigers won a game that tipped before noon was Nov. 22, 2012 when they topped Xavier 70-67 at 11 a.m. in the opening round of the DirecTV Classic at the Anaheim Convention Center.
- In last year's MTE in Hawaii, Pacific won both of its neutral court match-ups defeating San Jose State 80-67 and Life Pacific 94-41.
- The Tigers are 12-5 in two seasons under head coach
Dave Smart and 3-1 this season when they outscore the opposition in the paint.
- The new-look Tigers reloaded with 15 newcomers this year, which included 10 transfers and five freshmen. They have Division I transfers from Binghamton, Dayton, Florida, Lamar, Long Beach State, Maine, UC San Diego and Washington.
