MORAGA, Calif. – With the 2025 season winding down, the Pacific volleyball program heads out to the Bay Area for a pair of rematches – first with Saint Mary's on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. from the UCU Pavilion followed by a trip to the Sobrato Center to face San Francisco on Saturday at noon.
Graduate
Olivia Keller had her most dangerous weekend of conference play against the Gaels (9-16, 7-7 WCC) and Dons (5-20, 3-12 WCC) in October, putting up 15 and 16 kills respectively. Those two matches started off a streak that has seen Keller reach double digit kills in nine of the last ten matches. With four matches left in the regular season, the Modesto native needs 34 kills to reach her career 500th kill.
The graduate has also been effective defensively putting up five double-doubles during the conference slate and averages 2.42 digs per set since the start of WCC play.
Her play was a key reason Pacific was able to erase a 2-1 deficit and push Saint Mary's to five sets in the last meeting. During that contest, the Tigers denied six Gaels match point attempts. A major reason behind that stalwart effort was the fact four Tigers finished with double digit digs that match. Freshmen
Mila Stojakovic and
Bella Gutierrez, as well as sophomore
Alessia Couchond, all set career best digs in that match.
A Tigers win would snap a four-match slide against the Gaels and represent both the first series win, and first win in Moraga, since the 2022 season.
Conversely, the Tigers have found themselves at home playing on San Francisco's home court, winning the last four trips to the Hilltop. Senior
Jayhlin Swain was a major part of Pacific's most recent victory over USF, going for 21 digs in that match last season. In her career against the Dons, Swain has thrived to the tune of 4.21 digs per set and two twenty-plus digs performances.
Swain this season has been no less dominant, ranking first in the conference in digs per set at 3.84 and second in digs per set in conference play at 3.86 digs per set. If she can maintain her current career clip of 4.01 digs per set as a Tiger, she will go down as the fourth Tiger in program history to average four or more digs per set, the third of which to be coached by Head Coach
Greg Gibbons.
Continuing to focus on the defense, graduate
Valentina Varani enters the final stretch of the season needing eight more blocks to become the first Tiger to reach the century mark since 2019. Varani was absent against Saint Mary's but came in in the second half of the match against USF and quickly delivered a solo block and block assist. Currently she ranks fourth in the WCC in blocks per set at 1.15.
Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
