SAN DIEGO, Calif. – For the second consecutive road match, the Pacific men's soccer program faces a ranked opponent, heading south to face No. 10 San Diego on Halloween at 7 p.m. on Friday at Torero Stadium.
The Tigers (3-11, 1-5 WCC) are looking to the right the ship as they compete in their penultimate road contest of the season against the Toreros (10-2-3, 4-1-1 WCC).
Senior and captain
Luca Baltzer has been a driver of the offense with a team-high three goals and eight points. His 16 shot attempts and nine shots on goal rank second among the Tigers behind only sophomore
Ezekiel Padilla. Padilla has the Tigers' last goal, which came against then-No. 4 Portland on the road.
Junior
Mateus Ruiz-Hurst has drawn the bulk of the starting assignments for Pacific in goal, sporting a 2.50 goals against average and a .571 save percentage through 11 starts.
San Diego, the defending West Coast Conference champion, was projected to be the top team in the WCC this year. Currently, the Toreros stand one point of the Beavers for first place in the conference standings. Since suffering its only defeat in WCC play to Portland, USD has earned victories over LMU, Seattle and Saint Mary's.
A trio of Toreros have 13 points, fueling the offense through Steven Ramirez, Cesar Bahena and Lain Wagner. They each have at least five goals on the year.
Lucca Adams has been the go-to option in goal for USD, owning a 7-1-2 record with a 0.41 goals against average in ten starts. Adams has four shutouts, including three-straight clean sheets during conference play most recently.
Pacific and San Diego meet for the 12th time since 2014. The Tigers are 4-7 (2-3 on the road) in the span and seek their first victory over the Toreros since a 2-1 road victory on Nov. 5, 2021.
The match can be viewed live on ESPN+ with a 7 p.m. kick-off scheduled.
