SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Freshman Lis Van Herwijnen of Pacific women's soccer earned West Coast Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon.

Joining LMU's JJ Hoover in the weekly recognition, Van Herwijnen secured a pair of clean sheets last week in her efforts defensively in scoreless draws at home against San Francisco and at Oregon State.

"Lis has shown tremendous growth throughout the season and continues to get better with each performance," Pacific assistant coach Taylor Book said. "This past weekend, she came up with some critical saves and fueled our attack with her distribution. Her competitive drive and work ethic have been key factors to our success and it's great to see her efforts recognized."

A native of Veldhoven, Netherlands, Van Herwijnen earns a WCC award for the first time this season and is the second Tiger to be recognized in 2025 with a weekly accolade, accompanying junior Whitney Garn's Offensive Player of the Week honors from Sept. 22.

Van Herwijnen becomes the first Tiger to win Defensive Player of the Week since Brenna Crump did so during the 2022 campaign following the Tigers' first program win over Santa Clara. Furthermore, Van Herwijnen is the first freshman to garner a WCC weekly award in program history.

Van Herwijnen made four saves in the 0-0 draw against the Dons last Wednesday and followed that up with a three-save performance against the Beavers in that scoreless draw last Saturday, totaling seven saves on 22 shots faced across the two matches.

Through 11 starts this season, Van Herwijnen has accumulated 45 saves in 990 minutes, lowering her goals against average to 1.82, thanks to the back-to-back shutouts last week. Her 45 saves rank ninth among all WCC goalkeepers while her four clean sheets on the year are tied for fifth in the league.

Van Herwijnen and the Tigers hit the road for their final road test of WCC play, facing Saint Mary's at 3 p.m. on Saturday from Saint Mary's Stadium.
