SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Extending its winning-streak to seven games, the No. 7 Pacific men's water polo program thumped Fresno Pacific 16-3 on Sunday in the weekend finale of the Julian Fraser Memorial, hosted by Santa Clara at the Sullivan Aquatic Center.
Â
The Tigers (14-5, 4-1 WCC) used a different batch against the Sunbirds (3-16, 1-2 WWPA) as their top-three leading scorers and starting goalkeeper all rested. Redshirt senior
Ethan Braga led the charge with a hat trick as Pacific won its fourth game in three days.
Â
The Tigers took control early with the first two goals coming from junior
Ethan Carrington, and extended it to 6-0 at the end of the first quarter after a score by junior
Jonah Martorana. A goal by freshman
Brody Biedermann near the end of the second quarter put Pacific up 9-1 at the half.
Â
For the game, Pacific tallied goals from nine different student-athletes. It included a pair from Martorana, Biedermann, Carrington, senior
Charlie Donlin and senior
Alek Newman. Senior
Daniel Viscia, junior
Noah Wendt and freshman
Saul Biddle also found the back of the cage.
Â
Junior goalkeeper
Benjamin Gronbach got the start and only conceded one goal in three quarters. Senior
Eli Sternweiler played the fourth and made three saves.
Â
The Tigers improved to 3-0 all-time against FPU.
Â
Up next, Pacific will look to defend its West Coast Conference Regular Season Championship at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2 at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center against No. 13 Cal Baptist. A win for Pacific would solidify the title and the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament.
